I’d been laid off, and there was no shortage of advice on how to get another job. Résumé this. LinkedIn that. Useful, sure.
What I couldn’t find was much help with the part before that:
making sense of what happened, methodically figuring out what I wanted next, working out how to talk about it — or avoid talking about it entirely — and stopping myself from jumping into the next thing before I’d figured out whether I actually wanted it.
You know, all the stuff that apparently comes with losing a job.
So I did what I tend to do when I don’t know what to do: researched it with the intensity of someone who had suddenly acquired a lot of free time.
The tools that helped me most are the ones that became Whilst.
It’s a labour of love, created to give you the space to understand where you’re at before diving into the next thing.
So, here’s to your Whilst.
